Rubén Penya was born in Vila-real, Spain, in 1980. He graduated in Industrial Design at Valencia Polytechnic University (UPV) and Marketing at University of Valencia (UV), where he also studied Psychology. He developed his professional career in education for more than ten years until he decided to enroll at the Facultat de Belles Arts de Sant Carles, València. His work is the result of a solid academic training and constant artistic research that has taken the form of sculptures, installations, drawings, performances and photographs. All of his pieces share an atmosphere of restlessness, anguish, and tense calm that forcefully expresses contemporary global concerns. Rubén Penya currently holds a Promoe Santander scholarship to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, where he recently exhibited at Fox 2 and Rosenberg galleries.
